Merge It!

I just have to say, IT IS ABOUT TIME there is some consolidating within the American soccer scene!

This is all about the “partnership” or “agreement” or whatever they want to call it.

I am sure that very few people have heard of it…but the USL (United Soccer Leagues) has entered an “agreement” with the MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League). The USL had tried starting up their very own I-League, which was supposed to be a professional indoor soccer league. The MISL already has 7 teams. The I-League has 3 teams. This could be a 10 team “league.”

Then throw in the PASL (Professional Arena Soccer League) and there are TOO many indoor soccer leagues in the United States. There have been several others that have tried to get their own thing going too.

The same can be said with the WHOLE structure of the American soccer scene. There’s the USSF (United States Soccer Federation) who is supposed to be the governing body. They tell people who, what, when, where, why, and how makes a league a “league.” So, the USSF has approved 3 (three, tres, THREE) different leagues for outdoor soccer. First tier is the MLS, second tier is the NASL, and third tier is USLPro. All three are different, they have nothing to do with each other.

This is STUPID! I doubt we’ll see any sort of merge with any of them in the outdoor leagues. It should. I know there are several people that think we should move to a promotion/relegation table…I am not against this AT ALL, but I don’t think it’d work, yet. It’d be nice if it could be that way. There just needs to be ONE league that is tiered and operated by ONE governing group.

Maybe…just maybe this USL/MISL thing starts a trend? It’d be great if all of American soccer can get on the same boat…but that’s not the American way is it? Everyone can do whatever they want, when they want, for whoever they want…instead of uniting and actually making it THE best it could possibly be.
